Autumn leaves and bird watching!

This week we have been busy doing lots of Autumn activities. The children enjoyed making leaf prints and made some lovely autumn trees. To make the leaf prints the children painted their leaf, placed it onto their paper then used a rolling pin to press the leaf onto the paper.

Here are some of the finished prints.

The children used corks to print autumn leaves onto trees.

We have added some of the finished trees to our Autumn display.

The children have been learning about animals in the autumn and winter and how it is difficult for them to find food; they loved making bird feeders for the outside area. The first type we made by threading cheerios onto shoe laces.

We hung them in the outside area so the birds could get to the food.
The second type of bird feeder we made by making lard into balls, rolling the balls in oats then hanging up in recycled orange net bags.
After we hanging the bird feeders we used binoculars to spot the birds.

The children loved using the binoculars so much we even made our own using kitchen rolls, tape and string.

This week we were visited by the Coram Life Education bus; the children met Harold the giraffe and helped Harold to prepare for his busy day at nursery. The children helped him to brush his hair, teeth and have a wash. Visit the Coram Life Education website for some fun games to play and video clips.

We had some oats left over after making the bird feeders so we decided that our cooking activity would be flapjacks! All the children helped to make them, we used non-dairy margarine, brown sugar, golden syrup and oats to make some delicious flapjacks.

Coming up next week- Friendship week. To celebrate friendship week we are going to have a teddy bear's picnic; the children will invite their teddy for tea next Friday.
