Frog spawn, tadpoles and frogs

This week the children have been learning all about frogs and their life cycle. We started off the week by learning the song 'five little speckle frogs' and practising counting back from 5. We used some props such as a log, plastic frogs and mirrored numbers for the children to act out taking one frog away during the song.

We had some fun messy play this week; we made frog spawn using tapioca and food colouring!

In our story times we read lots of books about the journey a tadpole makes to become a froglet. The children completed a life cycle activity, they had to put the pictures of the different stages into the correct order.

We have been investigating colour mixing and painted pictures of frogs by mixing yellow and blue paint.

On Wednesday St Anthony's had a special visitor- Tim from Sustrans, he brought his bike with him and showed us how to use the bike to make smoothies! They tasted great and some of the children had a go at pedalling the bike to generate some electricity.

We had an exciting day on Friday- we made vegetable couscous with Mrs McCallum and began using the ipads for the first time. The children are finding their way around the controls, some were able to use the photo booth app to take some great photos and some had a go on some educational games. We will have a computing session every Friday.

The children have enjoyed some outdoor learning in the sun, we had lots of water play and as we had a very windy day this week we played with scarves and ribbons from the windy day box. The children did some lovely shared art work using chubbie marker pens.

We have set up a new display in the conservatory area; each child will have their own name peg and attached will be their 'Special nursery moment', this might be that someone has met their next step, done some great learning or has done something lovely for their friends.

Next week we will be learning about lady birds.
