Aaarrgghhh Spiders!

This week we have had a spider theme! The children have learnt all about spiders and we have had lot of fun activities for the children to use their spider knowledge.

We learnt that spiders spin silk webs so we made our own by swirling pva glue onto paper then sprinkled glitter on the top. We added spider stickers to the middle of the webs too.

We also used polystyrene cups and pipe cleaners to make some spiders and paper plates that we threaded with wool to make some webs.

We have used all the children's awesome spider creations to make a great spider display in the reading room, come and have a look!

We also made some really cool web pictures by drawing a web using crayons then dipping the paper into marbling inks.

We had some spider fun outside too, we used ribbons and thread to make some webs on the fence and using hoops.

Next week the children will be learning all about frogs.

Mini beasts!

This week we introduced our new topic- mini beasts; the children came back refreshed from the Easter break and excited to learn lots about bugs and insects.

The children have enjoyed learning some names of different mini beasts and have put this into practice by playing mini beast bingo.

We made some non-fiction books using pictures of mini beasts, some of the children were able to label their mini beast pictures and used their phonic knowledge to sound out the initial sounds of the words.

The children have loved exploring our newly finished bug garden, they found ants, spiders, snails, woodlouse and centipedes.

The children made some lovely mini beast collages, we are going to laminate then and put them into the bug garden.

We have changed our indoor role play area into a flower shop; the children have enjoyed making price labels for the flowers and flower pots and made some great tissue paper flowers to add to the shop.

As the weather has been so warm the children have loved having lots of water play outside, they even set up a car wash to wash the bikes!

The children have also enjoyed using metal detectors in the outside area.

Next week we will focussing on the theme of spiders.
