Owl babies, family and lots of messy fun!

This week we have focussed on the theme- Family. We read the story Owl Babies by Martin Waddell, it is about three baby owls who wake up one evening to find their owl mother gone! This is a great story to help the children to understand that when they leave their mummies and daddies to come to nursery they will come back soon.

We have had lots of owl babies based activities going on and have set up an owl nest area full of books about owls, puppets for the children to re-enact the story and an audio cd to listen to. Here are some photos of our Owl babies tree display and small world play area.

We have put up all the lovely family photos you have sent in, there is still space for some more if you would like to contribute to the display.

Our cooking activity this week was fruit kebabs, the children used grapes, pineapple and raspberries to make a traffic light kebab. They were yummy!

We have had lots of messy play fun; the children have enjoyed using spoons and tongs to play with colourful pasta and well as mixing flour and water to make play dough! Here are some pictures of all the fun!

Here are some more pictures of our week...

We enjoyed building constructions with popiods.
Creeping as a dinosaur along the wobbly bridge.
Making shape pictures with the hammer and nail shapes.
 Washing the babies.
Mark-making and drawing pictures of our families.

Mark-making with chalk.

And playing in the sand with construction vehicles.

What we've been learning this week.

Wow, what a busy week we have had at Our lady's Nursery! We have had lovely sunny weather and the children have played in our new outside area a lot.

Here are the children using gross motor movements with brushes and water.

The children have been practicing balancing by making pathways using stepping stones, tunnels and wobbly boards.

The children have made some great shape pictures using mosaic tiles too.

The children have enjoyed writing letters to their mummies and daddies and have attempted to write some of the letters in their names using their name card.

Our cooking session this week was toast with strawberry jam or butter.

And as always play dough was a popular choice, the children made lots of cupcakes and cookies.

Winter is coming...

Yes it's only Autumn but, planning ahead we would like to make some bird feeders to put in the trees in the nursery outdoor area. We are collecting orange netting bags from oranges, celemtines etc, if you have any please send them in. Thank you.
